While the challenging market has most of us focused on our businesses, the National Modular Housing Council (NMHC) continues to make strategic advances to ensure the long-term health of the industry. The NMHC is focused and committed to one thing, providing a forum and the resources that will help you do your business and directly impact your bottom line.

This has taken hold in two forms. First, the NMHC is becoming a true network where you can interact with your peers and come together to effect industry-wide policies to the benefit of your organization. Recently, the NMHC chose to tackle and look closely at an issue that has been around for some time, the issue of on-frame modulars. The NMHC created a taskforce that met several times via conference call this winter to come up with a consensus document on on-frame modulars. While still not in a final format, this represents a huge accomplishment for the association. Despite how you might view them, these homes have the potential to impact your business positively or negatively. The NMHC is a national organization, with a national voice and access to regulators, lawmakers, and policy makers. The strategic positions the NMHC will take will influence you and impact you bottom line one way or another. Only by interacting with your fellow industry members and influencing the strategic vision of the organization can you make this opportunity work to your advantage.

Secondly, the NMHC is dedicated to helping its membership expand their business and improve their bottom line. The Manufacturer Contact Page on the website helps over 2,000 builder and consumers a month connect with manufacturers of modular homes in their market area. The association is currently working on developing a Lead Prospecting database that will drive even more traffic to manufacturers and help builder and developers make connections to our industry. The Developer’s Symposium this year in Las Vegas will draw over a hundred builders and developers who have a serious interest in working with the industry, and the four webinars held in January and February drew over 200 participants. The NMHC has begun to develop strategic partnerships with large organizations like Habitat for Humanity, and has access to vast amount of resources to help you educate builders/developer, like the Modular Housing Training Institute. All of these initiatives are geared to helping our members grow their business, and we are continuing to add to this list.

The NMHC is a membership organization committed to serving the business and professional interests of its members. Please contact me with any thoughts or comments you have at rlyons@pennlyon.com. I look forward to seeing you all in Las Vegas.

Sincerely,

Roger Lyons
