MHI is the only national organization representing all segments of manufactured housing industry. MHI serves its membership by providing research, statistical information, market development, promotion, education, technical and government relations programs, and by facilitating consensus within the industry.

Categories of Membership

Manufacturers

A Manufacturer Member fabricates manufactured and/or modular housing units. Manufacturers are organized in a Manufactured Housing Division and a Modular Housing Division. MHI’s Technical Activities Committee, Transportation Committee and the Manufactured Housing Research Alliance work closely with member manufacturers on HUD-Code and Modular issues and conduct research on such important issues as transportation, structural design, foundations, and other technical activities.

National Communities Council

The Owner/Manager category of the NCC provides a forum for unified action on important community issues. MHI provides a cohesive voice for community managers and owners on issues such as fair housing; occupancy standards; tax and property rights; and environmental issues. Additionally, NCC members benefit from specially tailored accreditation courses designed by the Manufactured Housing Educational Institute (MHEI) to raise professionalism in the field. To be eligible for membership in Owner/Manager category of the National Communities Council, you must be a member of your state association.

The Affiliate category of the NCC is for those individuals or companies whose primary business supports the development, finance or operation of manufactured home communities, but do not own or manage land-lease communities. Individuals or companies joining MHI through the NCC Affiliate category would be voting member of the NCC.

Financial Services Division

This category of membership is for those companies that provide financing, insurance or other financial services to the manufactured housing and modular industry. MHI provides a number of benefits including economic statistics and forecasting; and information on manufactured and modular home loans. MHI's Financial Services Division representatives are afforded the opportunity to network with their peers as well as other segments of the industry to shape the future scope of financing for manufactured housing.

Suppliers Division

Membership in the Suppliers Division includes companies that supply goods or services to the manufactured housing and modular industry, as well as Professional Service Providers such as attorneys, architects, consultants and non-profit organizations. Suppliers are offered statistics on current and future trends in manufactured housing through MHI's publications and resources. Additionally, membership in MHI provides suppliers with a forum to network with key leaders from other segments of the industry.

Builder-Developer

A Builder-Developer Member develops, but does not own or manage, manufactured and/or modular home communities and subdivisions (except prior to filling and selling the property or lots in the property. Upon joining MHI, Builder-Developer Members choose whether to become members of the Communities Division, the Modular Housing Division or the Retail Division.

National Retailers Council

A Retailer Member owns a manufactured and/or modular home sales center with a physical location for the display of home models, but does not own or manage manufactured and/or modular home communities and subdivisions. Retailer Members will be organized in a Retail Division, also known as the National Retailers Council. A Retailer Member must be a member of a State Association Member in each State in which that Retailer Member operates physical retail sales centers and also must be licensed by each State in which licensing is required.
